Behavior Consultancy

Behavior Consultation

Behavior consultation is designed to seamlessly shift the principles of ABA into a broader arena, one focused on behavior. It provides coaching and support to direct care professionals* in addressing behaviors in all children, not just those associated with children or young adults with developmental disorders.

Direct Care Professionals

*Direct care professionals include school administrators and support staff, daycare and after-school program staff, social workers and case managers, pediatricians, family practice physicians and health care clinicians, psychologists, psychiatrists and therapists, hospital administrators, and guardians ad litem.

Behavioral consultation is a four-stage problem-solving model that involves the collaborative efforts of two or more persons to clarify a student’s needs and develop and implement appropriate strategies for intervention.

ABA therapy for Autism Spectrum Disorder, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder or other development disorders is improved when direct care professionals* can understand the underlying behavior triggers that hinder development and behavior and create conflict and disruption at home and/or school.

In short, ABA can be used to address almost any behavior.  If it is a behavior, and it can be observed, ABA principles exist that can be used to either increase or decrease that behavior.  As a discipline, ABA providers are charged with the improvement of socially significant behaviors including social skills, expressive and receptive communication, and repetitive or stereotyped behaviors.

Behavior consultation helps:

  • Parents/caregivers of a child with ASD or other developmental disability who needs more direct training instead of a 1-on-1 therapy model.
  • Parents/caregivers of any child who needs specific behaviors addressed without the cost of a 20+ hour a week ABA program.
  • Parents/caregivers who wants help in teaching specific skills to a child.
  • Parents/caregivers who wants to understand the underlying components of their child’s behavior to better address behavioral concerns.
  • Teachers/administrators who wants to implement classroom-wide or school-wide intervention plans for global behavioral issues (or individual plans for specific individual behavior concerns). Learn more

School-Based Behavior Consultation
We provide behavior consultative services in public and private school settings to address the challenging behaviors of students with ASD or other related disorders.

These children often require unique behavior treatments that will be more effective in a school setting once educators understand the treatment plan.

We work collaboratively with teachers, school psychologists and other members of the teaching staff to develop behavior intervention plans and effective systems of reinforcement to help achieve meaningful objectives in the classroom.

In this, we can help educators:

  • In creating individualized ASD+ behavior plans.
  • In developing ASD+ intervention programs.
  • In providing on-site professional services, including comprehensive assessments.

Behavior consultation focuses on skill development and challenging behavior reduction for success. We provide ABA therapy and behavior support interventions in-school and in-home to improve social skills, academics, vocational skills, functional skills and communication.

This is accomplished through the use of ABA therapy in collaboration with direct care professionals including medical and mental health professionals, school administration, social services, faith-based leaders and legal professionals.

Our Focus

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is a science dedicated to the understanding and improvement of human behavior. In that, ABA addresses behaviors of all children. Engaging any child or young adult in positive social interactions that teaches appropriate skills and reduces challenging behaviors are vital components of behavior therapy.

Our Services

Our ABA services are provided by a Lead Analyst or a Board-Certified Behavior Analyst and a Registered Behavior  Technician (RBT).

Lead Analysts and BCBAs focus on defining behaviors of social significance, sometimes referred to target behaviors in children between 18 months and 12 years and young adults between 13 and 21 years.

Lead Analysts and BCBAs also provide coaching and support to assist those with close and continual contact with the child or young adult including school staff and administrators, health care providers, after-school or day care staff.

Why Behavior Consultation
Behavior consultation recognizes that negative or maladaptive behaviors can affect not only the child or young adult but also family members and classroom and social peers.
ABA therapy addresses almost any behavior. Its principles can increase or decrease certain behaviors and improve socially-significant behaviors including social skills, expressive and receptive communication, and repetitive or stereotyped behaviors.
